Lucca is an ancient little town in the northwestern corner of Tuscany. It's well known for the medieval wall surrounding the old city center that has now become a lovely promenade perfect for walking, biking, and viewing the surrounding mountains. Lucca is beautiful and charming, comprised of narrow winding streets that open onto unexpected piazzas and cathedrals. I wish I had more time to explore this town, and I would definitely go back.
While everyone else walked along the wall or rented a bike for a ride circling the town, I just popped up to the wall for a moment and quickly wandered back down to the streets. The trail along the wall seemed very serene, and when I found some people playing drums and smoking on the lawn it suddenly felt like San Francisco.
