The plein air workshop at Natural Bridges State Beach with Robert Dvorák a few weeks ago went great. I've never painted landscapes outdoors before, and it was fun to paint these so quickly and spontaneously.
Texture in Watercolor
My current watercolor class has me doing a lot of really basic exercises. These are samples of many different ways to create texture: masking fluid, granular pigments, dropping in india ink, lifting, saran wrap, wax, dry brush, toothbrush, stippling, wax paper, salt, razor blade, tissue dabbing, and splattering. Experimenting with a lot of different techniques always yields interesting results. Above is an abstract painting utilizing a lot of texture. Here I laid down gesso and texture paste to create an unusual tactile quality.
Floral Watercolors
Continuing with my watercolor studies, a few florals done in class.
Watercolors
I've been taking a watercolor class with Alisan Andrews. She's a terrific artist and has inspired me to do more painting.
